Description

Role Summary

The Corporate Accountant supports the accounting and financial reporting functions of Highline Real Estate Partners' storage platform, executing accurate, timely revenue accounting and close activities across the storage portfolio, maintaining general ledger integrity, and partnering with Property Operations, Asset Management, and the Corporate Controller to ensure financial accuracy and reporting consistency at scale. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role also coordinates with the Acquisitions and Operations teams, and as needed with investment partners, on interrelated financial and reporting matters. This role requires ownership, analytical rigor, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-growing, real estate-focused organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Close & Accounting Operations

  • Perform facility-level and platform-wide revenue accounting for the storage portfolio within prescribed schedules and guidelines.
  • Prepare journal entries (accruals, reclassifications, recurring allocations) and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts, and support consolidation of storage platform financials, including intercompany eliminations and reconciliation to the consolidated ledger.
  • Assist with corporate and asset-level budgeting and forecasting, and support preparation of funding requests.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting packages, ensuring facility-level results are summarized and reconciled for review by the Controller.
  • Communicate financial results and variances to facility leadership, the Controller, and Asset Management, providing context as needed.
  • Field ad-hoc requests from stakeholders, producing clear, concise reports and variance analysis on storage revenue and receivables.

Reconciliations, Analysis & Internal Controls

  • Prepare and resolve outstanding items on assigned account reconciliations across the storage portfolio, including daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile the general ledger to the storage platform's front-end revenue management system and sub-ledgers.
  • Perform account analysis to identify trends, errors, or anomalies, and escalate findings appropriately.
  • Review others' work for documentation and coding accuracy, and maintain adherence to internal controls, flagging gaps as identified.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support company-wide accounting initiatives, including system integrations, workflow redesigns, and scalability projects.
  • Assist with onboarding newly acquired facilities, transitioning vendors into the accounts payable system, and addressing regulatory requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships with Asset Management, Property Operations, HR/Payroll, and other partners; serve as a reliable accounting contact for the platform.
  • Partner with the Controller and CFO on ad hoc analysis and special projects as business needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • 2+ years of corporate accounting or finance experience required; real estate, self-storage, or private equity-backed environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with multiple entities and intercompany transactions preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (Sage Intacct experience a plus); familiarity with Mineral Tree, Expensify, or similar AP/expense tools a plus; advanced Excel required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with effective communication across all levels of management and property-level personnel.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment; demonstrates Highline's core values of Leadership, Accountability, Excellence, Trust, Teamwork, and Communication.
