The primary purpose of the Security Officer is to prevent radiological sabotage and theft of special nuclear material and provide protection of SSES personnel, property and operations against criminal acts.
Primary Responsibilities
- As a member of the Armed Nuclear Security Force, defend against adversarial actions or threats and prevent radiological sabotage and theft of special nuclear material through the authorized use of deadly or non-deadly force at SSES.
- Perform access and visitor control, personnel and vehicle searches for contraband and prohibited items, armed security patrols, and escort duties.
- Control non-licensed and emergency vehicles and conduct visual and electronic surveillance.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations, conduct on-scene assessments, and accurately document and report security-related activities.
- Maintain proficiency with assigned firearms and remain qualified in assigned security duties.
- Maintain applicable fitness, medical, First Aid, CPR, and other required qualifications throughout employment.
Basic QualificationsÂ
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Ability to obtain and maintain REAL ID-compliant identification once required for site access under applicable federal requirements.
- Valid concealed carry permit, obtained at the employee's expense prior to completion of initial training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization in accordance with applicable NRC and site requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain all required security training, firearms qualifications, physical fitness standards, and medical qualifications.
- Ability to meet applicable Fitness-for-Duty requirements, including required drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and follow established procedures and instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Criminal Justice, or prior law enforcement, corrections, security, or military experience.
Additional Information
This position requires working swing shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-ins as required.
Security Officers must maintain all licenses, permits, certifications, access requirements, and qualifications required for the position throughout employment.
The position requires the ability to perform the physical functions associated with armed security duties, including prolonged standing and walking, responding rapidly to security events, and working in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
Security Officers must remain alert, exercise sound judgment in high-stress situations, work effectively as part of an armed security team, and respond appropriately to emergency and security-related events.
