The Defense Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, Ohio office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience supporting government contracts and IRAD programs.  In this mission we design, build, integrate, and perform test demonstrations of new and emerging technologies and capabilities.

Please note: This position is located in Beavercreek, OH. There may be occasional opportunity to telework during the week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review designs, drawings, and verifying adherence to ASME Y14 standards for the ME/EE team
  • Support the design and integration of ISR sensors and systems payloads on various ground and air based applications
  • Take on the role of project lead where a Mechanical Engineer is required. This involves shaping designs and solutions from USG requirements and working with USG customers to ensure requirements are met.
  • Briefing USG customers at either formal (PDR, CDR) or informal design reviews.
  • Meet with subcontractors to track technical progress, coordinate manufacturing efforts and maintain timelines to ensure successful tests.
  • Support the portfolio manager to meet with brief potential customers on Leidos’ capabilities and provide labor and cost estimates.
  • Oversee design, build, assembly of components and payloads during flight testing events and coordination with the Flight Test Manager
  • Provide support with engineering process development, CAD management, and vendor evaluation/quality management
  • Take on the role of project lead where a Mechanical Engineer is required. This involves shaping designs and solutions from USG requirements and working with USG customers to ensure requirements are met.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with 12+years of experience or Master’s with 10+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Must currently have a Secret Clearance be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Clearance. 
  • Experience serving as a lead engineer on programs or projects.
  • In-depth understanding of Military Specifications (MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-8591, MIL-HDBK-810) and Mechanical Engineering Standards (ASME Y14)
  • Ability to communicate requirements with Structural analysts and aerodynamicists and review analysis reports.
  • Ability to work within a team to develop solutions that require a multi-disciplined team collaboration
  • Foundational material selection and  fabrication technologies (3+ Axis machining, metal bending and forming, 3D Printing, etc.)
  • Familiar with common hand tools (screw drivers, drills, wrenches)
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and work in unairconditioned environments during flight testing events (less than 1 month a year)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team
  • 3D modeling, drawings, and life cycle management tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with composites (carbon fiber, fiberglass) and composite processes and designs
  • Familiar with PTC Creo Parametric and Windchill
  • Experience with airworthiness processes for military flight releases or commercial aviation
