JOB PURPOSE:

The Accounting Assistant functions under the supervision and guidance of the Controller. The Accounting Assistant provides support to the Accounting Department by assisting with day-to-day financial operations. This role is designed to provide a student or entry-level professional with exposure to accounting functions in a healthcare setting, while developing skills in accounts payable, reconciliations, and general ledger support.

 

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to:

  1. Satisfies Core Competencies
    • Accepts responsibility for meeting the standards of the professional, ethical, and relevant legislated requirements.
  2. Accounts Payable Support: 
    • Assist with entering invoices into the accounting system.
    • Match invoices to proper documentation (purchase orders, approvals).
    • Help prepare vendor files and maintain organized records.
    • Support weekly check runs and electronic payments.
  3. Cash & Bank Support:
    • Assist with entering invoices into the accounting system.
    • Match invoices to proper documentation (purchase orders, approvals).
    • Help prepare vendor files and maintain organized records.
    • Support weekly check runs and electronic payments.
  4. General Accounting Support:
    • Assist with entering invoices into the accounting system.
    • Match invoices to proper documentation (purchase orders, approvals).
    • Help prepare vendor files and maintain organized records.
    • Support weekly check runs and electronic payments.
  5. Other Duties:
    • Assist with entering invoices into the accounting system.
    • Match invoices to proper documentation (purchase orders, approvals).
    • Help prepare vendor files and maintain organized records.
    • Support weekly check runs and electronic payments.
  6. Workforce Development: 
    • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Attends and participates in in-service, monthly staff meetings, continuing education offerings, community training events, conferences, and webinars as appropriate. 

Required Education:

Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Junior or Senior year preferred).

Skills, Licensure, and Knowledge Requirements

Prior office or accounting experience (preferred but not required).

Basic understanding of accounting principles.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.
