Responsibilities
What your day looks like as a Superintendent:
• Lead and manage daily stevedoring and terminal operations, including cargo handling, vessel loading/unloading, bulk, and equipment utilization.
• Assign, coordinate, and oversee labor and personnel to maintain a safe, efficient, and positive working environment.
• Ensure terminal areas and working spaces are orderly, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Prepare and submit operational documentation, logs, and reports accurately and on time.
• Plan and organize vessel and terminal activities to maximize productivity, minimize delays, and ensure seamless cargo flow.
• Clearly communicate standard operating procedures and ensure consistent compliance across the workforce.
• Collaborate with the Customer Service and Logistics teams to coordinate vessel schedules, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate and on-time service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental standards and lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training initiatives.
Qualifications
To succeed as a Superintendent you must have:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or technical training in operations, logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in cargo handling, stevedoring, terminal operations, maritime operations, or a related industrial environment.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Demonstrated leadership ability with a strong commitment to safety, accountability, and leading by example.
- Ability to effectively manage priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, constantly changing operational environment.
- Knowledge of stevedoring operations, cargo handling procedures, warehouse activities, and the safe operation of related equipment; prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience supporting health and safety initiatives, with knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build teamwork, collaboration, and positive working relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to complete operational documentation and reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on vessel schedules and operational needs.
