The General Counsel will serve as the central operating hub of the internal legal function, bringing structure, consistency, and scalability to legal work across Turnberry while ensuring alignment with ownership.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for a legal professional with a strong corporate and real estate background who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution. The ideal candidate enjoys building systems, managing complexity, directly supporting hands-on legal work, driving adoption of processes, and developing people.
The General Counsel advises executive leadership and manages legal processes across workstreams, coordinating with subject-matter experts and ensuring company-wide governance and workflow efficiency.

What You Do:
(Duties/Responsibilities)
Â
Real Estate & Development
- Oversee and coordinate legal activity related to real estate acquisitions, dispositions, development, redevelopment, and construction projects.
- Ensure consistency, visibility, and governance across purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, construction contracts, easements, amendments, and related documentation.
- Own intake, tracking, and end-to-end lifecycle management of real estate and development agreements, including key milestones, conditions precedent, closing requirements, and post-closing obligations.
- Proactively identify legal risks, timing considerations, and dependencies that may impact project schedules or capital deployment.
- Serve as the operational bridge between deal execution and asset-level management, ensuring clean handoffs, accountability, and post-closing follow-through.Litigation, Employment & Risk Management
- Coordinate litigation matters across employment, commercial, and other disputes, ensuring consistent oversight, reporting, and risk assessment.
- Serve as the primary internal coordinator for employment-related legal matters, including investigations, claims, and outside counsel engagement.
- Own legal risk management frameworks, including tracking exposure, claims trends, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure legal matters are escalated appropriately, prioritized correctly, and resolved efficiently.
- Partner closely with HR and executive leadership to provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance while maintaining strong governance and compliance standards.
Retail Leasing
- Provide operational oversight and coordination of retail leasing legal work, including new leases, amendments, renewals, assignments, and terminations.
- Ensure consistent lease standards, document management, and portfolio-wide visibility across the retail platform.
- Own lease intake and tracking processes, including critical dates, options, exclusives, co-tenancy provisions, and landlord obligations.
- Streamline workflows, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure timely execution and follow-through.
- Step into complex or sensitive leasing matters when needed—without becoming a transactional bottleneck.
Hospitality, Vendor & Asset-Level Agreements
- Oversee hospitality-related legal agreements, including hotel operations, management agreements, licensing, and brand-related contracts.
- Coordinate vendor, service, and asset-level agreements across properties to promote consistency, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Implement and own standardized contract intake, tracking, and document management processes for vendor and operating agreements.
- Track renewals, termination rights, service levels, pricing escalations, and key obligations to avoid missed deadlines or unintended exposure.
- Prepare the function for future transition and scale, ensuring knowledge continuity, documentation, and clean handoffs as responsibilities evolve.
Legal Operations, Governance & LeadershipÂ
- Act as the central operating center for the legal function, ensuring transparency, prioritization, and accountability across all legal matters.
- Own and continuously improve the enterprise-wide contract intake, tracking, document management, and governance framework.
- Design and manage a robust governance structure covering renewals, covenants, key dates, obligations, and compliance requirements across all agreements.
- Own legal technology platforms, reporting, and dashboards that support leadership visibility, workflow management, and informed decision-making.
- Lead change management efforts to ensure adoption of legal processes, standards, and tools across operating teams.
- Coordinate activity across real estate, litigation, leasing, hospitality, and operating teams to eliminate silos and duplication.
- Manage outside counsel engagement, including scoping, matter management, performance oversight, and billing discipline.
- Partner with Finance to forecast, manage, and optimize enterprise-wide legal spend.
- Sit across both operating company and ownership layers to ensure alignment—while explicitly not assuming responsibility for capital markets or pure deal execution.
- Serve as a mentor and resource to junior attorneys and legal staff, while remaining comfortable stepping directly into complex, high-stakes, or sensitive matters.
- Command credibility across the organization through sound judgment, disciplined follow-through, clear communication, and strong prioritization.

What You Bring to the Table:
(Requirements)
- Juris Doctor (JD) required; active bar admission in good standing.
- 15+ years of legal experience with a strong foundation in corporate and real estate law.
- Demonstrated experience leading or building legal operations, governance, or contract management functions.
- Deep familiarity with commercial real estate, development, leasing, construction, and hospitality-related legal matters.
- Experience operating in a complex, multi-entity environment, supporting both operating companies and ownership-level stakeholders.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and scale legal processes, systems, and technology platforms (e.g., CLM, matter tracking, document management).
- Strong financial acumen, including experience managing legal budgets, forecasting spend, and driving cost discipline.
- Comfort interfacing regularly with senior executives, clearly communicating legal risk, priorities, and trade-offs in a business-forward manner.
- Demonstrated success leading change management efforts and driving adoption of new processes across cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, and judgment skills.
- Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on legal execution.
- High level of discretion, accountability, and sound judgment in handling sensitive or high-risk matters.
- Experience mentoring and developing legal talent, with an eye toward succession planning and scalability.
