We are seeking motivated, highly skilled Advanced Vehicle Systems Engineers to lead the investigation and root-cause analysis of complex customer vehicle functional issues that remain unresolved after dealer diagnosis and first-level technical escalation. This role requires comprehensive systems knowledge across the entire vehicle ecosystem, including all powertrain types, electrical and electronic systems, chassis systems, and connected vehicle technologies. Ideal candidates will have extensive hands-on experience in advanced automotive diagnostics and the ability to work autonomously, both onsite at dealerships and remotely, to analyze difficult and intermittent customer vehicle concerns.
The FQE is deployed to dealerships by escalation request on case-by-case basis to validate and determine the root cause of unresolved customer vehicle functional concerns, initiate formal issue tracking, and mobilize accountable engineering and quality ownership to develop and implement the solution. The role objective is not only to diagnose the individual customer vehicle, but also to ensure that validated systemic issues are transitioned into the appropriate Quality and Engineering processes for permanent resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with a 24-hour initial root-cause assessment KPI, requiring rapid concern validation, diagnostic direction, and identification of clear next steps
- Lead cross-functional collaboration across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, IT, and Dealer Service teams to drive issues from initial diagnosis through validated resolution
- Demonstrate strong triage and root-cause analysis capabilities across the vehicle ecosystem, including propulsion, electrical, connectivity, and drivetrain systems on ICE, hybrid, and BEV vehicles
- Able to diagnose, isolate, and localize complex vehicle issues, including ignition-off-draw battery drains, intermittent electrical concerns, connectivity failures, and powertrain-related conditions
- Possess extensive knowledge of PowerNet, Atlantis High/Mid, automotive Ethernet, CAN, and LIN bus communication architectures
- Demonstrate proficiency with CANalyzer for data collection and signal-level log analysis using DBC files, as well as Stellantis CDA and wiTECH diagnostic tools
- Familiar with dealer diagnostic procedures and repair methods, with the ability to ensure alignment with manufacturer service procedures, safety standards, and dealership quality processes
- Locate, interpret, and apply vehicle specifications, schematics, technical documentation, and engineering data to support root-cause analysis
- Provide diagnostic direction and mentor others in structured root-cause methodologies, vehicle diagnostic procedures, and the effective use of specialized tools
- Support software and module updates, calibration verification, component configuration, and post-repair validation
- Document diagnostic findings, supporting evidence, repair recommendations, ownership, and service actions accurately and clearly
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related quantitative or technical field
- 5+ years of experience with automotive electronic hardware and/or software, including automotive product design and release, resident engineering, or component manufacturing
- Demonstrated expertise in structured problem-solving and advanced root-cause analysis tools and methodologies
- Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks, including CAN, diagnostic trouble codes, diagnostic procedures, and electrical troubleshooting
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data analytics tools to identify patterns, trends, and emerging vehicle issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage suppliers, dealers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of management
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional working relationships
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, track progress, and drive solutions to timely completion
- Ability and willingness to travel within the United States to support dealership-based vehicle investigations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in engineering
- Knowledgeable in APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA
- Programming skills in a statistical or data science language, such as Python
- Proficiency with Business Intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, QlikSense) to create insightful reports and dashboards
- Familiarity with warranty management systems (e.g., Global Warranty Management) and enterprise data environments (e.g., data lakes, cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Dealership and or manufacturing workplace experience
- Experience utilizing Co-Pilot and other AI technologies
