This position provides support for Georgia Power’s Distribution Management System, which is utilized by Distribution Control Centers and back-office personnel to ensure the reliable operation and management of the electric distribution power delivery system. The role is responsible for the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of operational processes that maintain the availability, reliability, and performance of all computer systems supported by the Distribution Management organization.

The successful candidate will provide 24x7 operational support for the GE Vernova SCADA suite and related systems that support the operational needs of Georgia Power customers. A strong understanding of operational concepts and computer technologies is essential to effectively support, troubleshoot, and manage the lifecycle of SCADA applications. Responsibilities include supporting the E-terra environment, administering user access, providing database support, managing data acquisition through RTU polling and ICCP communications, and integrating vendor-delivered tools with the underlying IT infrastructure. The role will also support the development of tools, interfaces, and reports that provide operational data to other departments within Georgia Power.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with distribution operators, field personnel, Southern Company business groups, and external vendors to troubleshoot system issues, implement enhancements, and support the ongoing improvement of the Distribution Management System environment.


The Distribution SCADA support team leverages the following technologies.

•    Vernova/GE E-terra habitat-based Distribution Management System
•    Windows servers both physically and virtually delivered
•    Windows PCs 
•    Linux servers both physically and virtually delivered
•    Zenoss monitoring system
•    Veeam backup and restore solutions
•    GitHub code repository

Relocation assistance is available.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:
•    Proficiency of Windows server administration and/or Unix/Linux (RHEL) administration
•    Proficiency with Windows desktop use including basic administration and Microsoft Tools
•    Understanding of networking, IT security concepts and pro-active approach to IT support 
•    Understanding of computer hardware including physical/virtual servers and desktops
•    Basic computer scripting and/or programming skills in Python, PowerShell, C sharp is a plus.
•    Background in Power Systems is a plus
•    Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.  This role will work with multiple other teams and vendor support groups to administer systems, coordinate releases, and support deployed solutions.

Experience and Education:
•    Degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Sciences or equivalent experience.
•    Experience supporting and troubleshooting computer systems in an enterprise setting.
•    General understanding of computer system infrastructure, operations, and security.
•    Knowledge of electric utility operations is a plus

Skills and Abilities: 
•    Must apply analytical thought processing for problem solving to troubleshooting and resolve technical issue. 
•    Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing priorities as well as delegation skills as appropriate.
•    Ability to bring consensus and buy-in among people with different views and agendas. 
•    Ability to grasp complex Distribution Management System operational issues, risk factors, and business drivers.
