ACCOUNTING MANAGER

About the Role:

As the Accounting Manager, you will direct and organize all general accounting activities and accounting staff including accounts payable and accounts receivable. Prepares accounting and financial reports. Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting records. In addition, you will implement and monitor systems of general accounting, ensuring compliance with federal acquisition regulation (FAR), generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, provide meaningful analysis on financial statements, assist in budgeting and forecasting, and maintain compliance with internal controls.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience; engineering, construction, or professional services experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience handling confidential information.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and SUMIF.
  • Prior ERP system experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing accounting software systems, Deltek/ Ajera is preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and coach two Staff Accountants supporting Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and related records; review transactions for accuracy, documentation, and GAAP compliance.
  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review and oversee payroll processing, records, reports, and related activities.
  • Analyze financial results against prior periods and budgets; prepare required government reports and respond to inquiries.
  • Oversee daily Accounts Payable, collections, and cash application activities, ensuring compliance with policies and performance metrics.
  • Lead accounting process improvements, including automation, system enhancements, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Support the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist the CFO with year-end audits, tax filings, and preparation of schedules and documentation for external auditors.
  • Monitor accounting standards, industry trends, and system developments; recommend policy and process updates as needed.
  • Perform additional accounting duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ASSESSMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/receivables/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures 
  • Working knowledge of project costing, financial analysis, estimates to completion, GAAP, and credit/collection policies. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and 10-key.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, research, documentation, organizational, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting and ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations..
