Full-Time | Exempt Position

Stonewall County Hospital District is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to provide leadership and oversight of nursing services for both Stonewall County Hospital and Stonewall Living Center. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring exceptional patient and resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, quality improvement initiatives, and operational excellence across the district.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of nursing operations for Stonewall County Hospital and Stonewall Living Center.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality patient and resident care.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, CMS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead recruitment, retention, development, and performance management of nursing staff.
  • Monitor staffing levels and coordinate schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Promote quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and risk management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians, department directors, and administrative leadership.
  • Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, and operational efficiency efforts.
  • Participate in survey readiness, emergency preparedness, and strategic planning activities.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing staff and leadership teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) License in good standing.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality improvement, and nursing operations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN; master's degree preferred (but not required)
  • Experience in Critical Access Hospital operations.
  • Experience in Long-Term Care or Skilled Nursing Facility management.
  • Experience with regulatory surveys and accreditation processes.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple departments and interdisciplinary teams.

Schedule & Availability

This leadership position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to respond to operational and staffing needs as necessary. Candidates must be willing to work collaboratively across the district and support nursing operations in both hospital and long-term care settings.
