Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Specialist

Overview:
Softtek Government Solutions is currently seeking a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Specialist to serve as part of a team in support of a federal government program. We need your enterprise information technology service management and consulting expertise to plan, implement, govern, and continuously improve a business-driven CMDB based on ServiceNow CSDM and ServiceNow ITOM. In this role you will develop practical technology solutions and recommendations and assist with implementing those solutions and recommendations to improve service visibility, operational decision-making, compliance monitoring, and the long-term sustainability of the CMDB.
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Elicit stakeholder requirements across Application Owners, IT Operations, Security, Architecture, and other technical and business teams to identify required Configuration Items (CIs), critical attributes, ownership requirements, and inter-CI relationships.
- Document business and technical requirements as functional and non-functional artifacts, including use cases, user stories, process flows, acceptance criteria, and implementation documentation.
- Analyze existing data sources to identify gaps, inconsistencies, duplication, normalization requirements, and migration challenges affecting CMDB implementation and sustainment.
- Define and maintain CMDB data models, including CI classes, attributes, ownership fields, lifecycle states, and enumeration values for servers, applications, databases, infrastructure, and other enterprise assets.
- Design and maintain CI relationship models, including dependencies such as "runs on," "connects to," and "is composed of," to accurately represent enterprise services and technology environments.
- Establish data standards, normalization practices, and governance controls to ensure CMDB consistency, integrity, and long-term maintainability.
- Align the CMDB with ITSM processes, including Incident, Change, Problem, and Asset Management, to ensure configuration data supports operational workflows and service management objectives.
- Define data governance policies and procedures covering data ownership, stewardship, data entry standards, updates, reconciliation, validation, and ongoing data quality management.
- Specify and support integrations with automated discovery tools, monitoring platforms, ticketing systems, and other authoritative data sources to ensure accurate and automated data population.
- Define CMDB data quality rules and metrics, monitoring controls, reporting mechanisms, and remediation processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, reliability, and integrity of configuration data.
- Plan and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT), develop test cases and validation criteria, and support business stakeholders in verifying functional requirements and expected outcomes.
- Identify reporting and dashboard requirements, develop CMDB-enabled performance metrics and KPIs (e.g., MTTR, change success rates), create training materials and user documentation, deliver stakeholder workshops and training sessions, provide ongoing support, resolve stakeholder conflicts, and facilitate communication between business and technical teams to drive adoption, consensus, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of overall information technology experience
- 5+ years enterprise ITSM / CMDB / Configuration Management experience
- Proficiency with ServiceNow Common Service Data Model (CSDM) and ServiceNow ITOM (IT Operations Management)
- Demonstrated expertise in CMDB planning, modeling, governance, and data quality frameworks
- Experience with Federal government contracting experience in enterprise architecture, IT operations, data governance
- Experience designing Configuration Item (CI) classes, relationships, and lifecycle management for complex organizations
- Experience leading workshops, stakeholder discussions, and cross‑team alignment
- Strong understanding of service mapping principles and organizational CMDB ownership models
- Excellent analytical, communication, documentation, facilitation, and standards development capabilities
- Experience working within large, federated, or regulated environments
Required Education
- Master’s degree in information technology or related field
- ITIL v4 or v5 certification
Security Clearance
- Current CBP clearance or a Top Secret Clearance
- US Citizenship
Work Location
- Onsite five days per week in Ashburn, VA
