About the Position

Greater Vision Family Care Home is seeking dependable, compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide hands-on care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting.

Our residents have different levels of independence and support needs. Some residents are ambulatory and require assistance or supervision with daily activities, while others are non-ambulatory and require total care.

Residents we support may have conditions including autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, blindness, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other developmental, physical, or behavioral needs.

This is a hands-on caregiving position. DSPs must be comfortable assisting residents with personal care, including bathing, toileting, changing briefs, grooming, dressing, feeding, mobility assistance, and other activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

Direct Support Professionals are responsible for providing safe, respectful, and consistent care based on each resident's individual needs and care plan.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist residents with bathing, toileting, changing briefs, grooming, dressing, and other personal-care needs.

• Provide total-care assistance to residents who cannot independently complete activities of daily living.

• Assist residents with mobility and provide support to both ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents.

• Prepare meals and assist residents with eating as needed.

• Follow special diets, food restrictions, pureed-diet requirements, and other dietary instructions.

• Follow each resident's care plan and established health and safety instructions.

• Assist with medications as authorized and trained and follow all medication procedures.

• Provide appropriate support to residents experiencing mild to moderate behavioral challenges.

• Help residents develop daily living, social, communication, and independence skills.

• Participate in activities and community outings with residents.

• Provide transportation to medical appointments, activities, and other approved destinations when assigned.

• Complete required shift documentation, incident reports, and other resident records accurately and on time.

• Clean and sanitize the group home, including resident living areas and common areas.

• Maintain a safe, clean, respectful, and comfortable home environment.

• Communicate concerns or changes in a resident's condition or behavior to the appropriate supervisor.

• Follow direction from the Resident Manager, Healthcare Coordinators, Lead DSPs, and other authorized members of the care team.

Attendance & Reliability

Reliable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.

Our residents depend on consistent staffing and supervision 24 hours a day. DSPs are expected to:

• Arrive on time and ready to work for every scheduled shift.

• Work their entire scheduled shift.

• Follow established call-out and attendance procedures.

• Maintain reliable transportation to and from work.

• Work assigned weekends and holidays as required by the schedule.

• Understand that another staff member may be unable to leave until proper shift coverage is present.

Employees must be able to consistently meet the attendance requirements of the position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Previous experience working in a group home, residential setting, healthcare setting, or caring for individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.

• Direct Support Professional (DSP) experience preferred.

• Experience supporting individuals with behavioral needs is a plus.

• Must be comfortable providing hands-on personal care, including bathing, toileting, changing briefs, feeding, and grooming.

• Must be comfortable working with individuals requiring total care.

• Must be willing and able to work weekends.

• Must be able to follow written care plans, safety instructions, medication procedures, and supervisor direction.

• Must demonstrate patience, professionalism, dependability, and respect when working with residents and coworkers.

• Must successfully complete all required background screening and employment requirements, including a Level 2 background screening.
