The Cemetery Foremen is responsible for guiding and coaching cemetery staff, completing land care work assignments, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety. The Cemetery Foreman should work to support the company’s core mission and values and adhere to our established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions and Competencies

  • Assures that all physical components of the memorialization process are in compliance with the client family wishes and comply with all company policies and procedures, all governmental regulations, and generally accepted and applied principles and practices of internment services.
  • Proficiently performs land care responsibilities along with staff, including, mowing lawns, blowing, edging, bundling debris, clearing snow, ice, or storm debris from pathways, storm preparation, and other similar duites.
  • Reviews and discusses daily work schedule with manager
  • Implements work schedule and guides coworkers for grounds and landscaping
  • Guides, trains and provides constructive feedback to the grounds crew.
  • Assures that the grounds crews’ personal appearance, actions, and demeanor present an appropriate image to client families.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by training the staff in proper techniques and use of safety equipment.
  • Assures that the site complies with OSHA and EPA regulations and that the employees comply with appropriate regulations.
  • Maintains proper inventories of equipment, supplies and merchandise and safety equipment.
  • Assures that all equipment is cleaned and properly maintained.
  • This is a hands-on supervisory position that will manage the maintenance operations of all cemeteries within a given market.
  • Identify and recommend efficiencies, implementing them when approved
  • Accurately use measuring devices (i.e. tape measure, yard stick, etc.) 
  • Manage landscape contracts and contractors to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Manage overall care of cemeteries to include: application of chemicals, mulch and pruning of greenery.
  • Maintain effective working relationships including communications with management and Staff.
  • Responsible for completing and submitting paperwork to appropriate department or manager.
  • Manages site preparation for services.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Grounds supervision experience is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years cemetery grounds experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong work ethic and ethical businesses practices are a must
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record

Work Environment  

  • Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists.
  • Frequent continuous period of time standing and/or walking for more than 6 hours per day; frequently pushing, pulling, and lifting, climbing.

Physical Demands

  • Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (50) pounds.
  • Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, chain saw and pump. 
  • Ability to operate mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, a tractor, utility vehicle, marker trailer, dump trailer, jack hammer, tamper, and backhoe.
