Staff Training Specialist

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Organizational Development Manager

HOURS: Full time, 40 hours, day/evening per week. Weekends and Overtime as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, sitting, reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., push and pull heavy loads. Physical ability to teach Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R) techniques and CPR

 

Job Summary: The Staff Training Specialist is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and documenting employee training programs to support staff competency, regulatory compliance, and quality service delivery. This position provides instruction, coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support to employees while maintaining accurate training records and ensuring required certifications are completed and maintained. The role requires strong communication and presentation skills, the ability to teach hands-on techniques such as CPR and SCIP-R, and a commitment to fostering a knowledgeable, confident, and well-prepared workforce.

Job Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma/GED
  2. One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is required.
  3. Supervisory experience in a human services field preferred.
  4. Prior presentation, mentoring, or teaching experience preferred.
  5. Current Red Cross 1st Aid and CPR Instructor and OPWDD SCIP-R instructor certification preferred. Must obtain 1st Aid/CPR certification within (3) months of hire and must obtain SCIP-R Instructor certification within (1) year of hire.
  6. Must be able to read and write the English language.
  7. Must have Driver's License that meets agency standards and reliable transportation.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule, train, document and coach employees on an ongoing basis.
  2. Creates a positive learning environment.
  3. Proactively shares information and resources with others.
  4. Track and Record Training attendance and update employee training records.
  5. Assist in curriculum assessment, updates and implementation of new trainings.
  6. Identifies obstacles or unanticipated problems that might interfere with objectives being met and acts to address them in a timely manner.
  7. Maintain training equipment, tools, and instructional materials to ensure a safe and organized learning environment.
  8. Performs other duties as required.
