Position Summary
Velox is seeking an experienced Field Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day execution of telecom utility construction activities in the field. This role directs subcontractor and in-house crews and is responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and Velox standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of aerial and underground OSP construction, knows how to keep crews productive and work moving, and takes ownership of safety, quality, and field execution from start to finish.
What You'll Do
- Oversee daily construction activities across assigned job sites, directing subcontractor and in-house crews on priorities, methods, production goals, and quality expectations.
- Plan and coordinate work before crews begin, including safety requirements, materials, permits, 811 locates, white-lining, site readiness, and proper sequencing.
- Monitor production and field conditions throughout the day, addressing delays, performance issues, material shortages, and other obstacles that could impact the schedule.
- Inspect work in progress and ensure construction meets approved drawings, project specifications, customer requirements, and Velox quality standards.
- Enforce Velox safety standards and OSHA requirements, including daily JSAs, hazard identification, and immediate correction of unsafe conditions.
- Measure and verify field quantities and maintain accurate daily documentation to support production tracking, billing, and project reporting.
- Communicate progress, schedule impacts, safety concerns, and field issues to the Construction Manager and coordinate with internal teams when additional support is needed.
- Troubleshoot field challenges and proactively prepare job sites, crews, equipment, and materials to maintain continuous workflow and minimize downtime.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in telecom utility construction or a closely related field.
- Experience directing field crews and/or subcontractors in a construction environment.
- Strong working knowledge of aerial and underground OSP construction methods and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fiber schematics, and project specifications.
- Strong field leadership, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; ability to pass required background and drug screening.
- Willingness to travel regionally and work extended hours, nights, or weekends when project needs require.
Physical & Work Requirements
This is a field-based position requiring regular work outdoors and on active construction sites in varying weather conditions. The role requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, climb as needed, work around construction equipment and in elevated or confined environments, and lift up to 75 pounds.
