Supervisor, Transit MaintenanceAnnual Salary Range: $44,950.93 - $ 53,949.79 Grade: 27The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the government Transit Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana, to plan, train, coordinate, and supervise skilled and unskilled workers in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the City's Transit buses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • -------- Supervises mechanics and auto service workers in transit fleet maintenance: plans, organizes, trains, and provides lead worker guidance; diagnoses problems in buses/equipment as they come in for repairs, creates work orders and assigns repair to employee; trains employees in new technology or operation of equipment; assists subordinates with difficult diagnoses and repairs; monitors work production; inspects the completion and quality of repairs; oversees and maintains safety procedures in the shop.
  • -------- Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies: orders operating supplies for shop thru central warehouse; orders materials and equipment needed for each job; makes daily check of shop equipment for safety purposes and to ensure proper working conditions, repairs as needed; distributes tools and equipment to employees; maintains current updates on diagnostic equipment; fabricates parts and special projects parts as needed.
  • -------- Prepares and processes necessary paperwork, specifications, and reports required by the FTA, LDEQ, City, and department policies and procedures; handles, prepares, and/or maintains the appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position: handles invoices, estimates, Fleet Maintenance Records, and work orders; processes the pertinent records for each vehicle/equipment as required by department policies and procedures and for Federal, State and City requirements for audit; processes employee time sheets and evaluations.
  • -------- Installs, maintains, repairs, and/or programs all electronic security systems, Twin Vision computer display signs, "Talking Bus" Notification Systems, and specialized wheelchair lifts on Transit buses and vans.
  • -------- Conducts State of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspections.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in Automotive Technology; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in automotive and equipment repair; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides for the technical, organizational, and supervisory knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid class B commercial driver's license.- Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial driver's license with air brakes at the time of appointment. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial driver's license with air brakes and passenger endorsement, and no manual transmission restrictions within three (3) months of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
