GovCIO is currently hiring a highly experienced Senior Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repairer to support critical data center operations, infrastructure modernization, and platform engineering activities for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This highly technical role focuses on managing, engineering, and maintaining secure, high-availability physical infrastructure, structured cabling, and mission-critical power systems. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA, and will be a hybrid position.


Responsibilities

The Senior Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repairer will serve as the core technical authority for data center infrastructure operations and compliance. Core responsibilities include:
  • Manage all aspects of data center operations, ensuring high availability, reliability, and compliance with federal standards.
  • Implement proactive monitoring strategies, analyze performance trends, and mitigate risks before they impact mission-critical systems.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex hardware installations, structured cabling, and power systems; validate designs and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Develop and refine operational procedures, introduce automation tools, and champion efficiency improvements across the facility.
  • Enforce strict access control measures, lead audits, and ensure compliance with federal security and safety protocols.
  • Direct outage recovery efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Forecast resource needs, manage equipment lifecycle, and ensure scalability for future mission requirements.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of equipment status, maintenance activities, and configuration changes within DCIM systems.
 

Qualifications

High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security, GSEC).
  • Advanced knowledge of UPS systems, power distribution, and electrical safety standards.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Proficiency in copper and fiber optic cabling termination and testing.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in demanding environments.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends and on-call rotations.

Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance.

 

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) infrastructure modernization programs.
  • Expertise with environmental monitoring tools and DCIM platforms.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, cabling standards).
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow or Remedy.
 

Posted Salary Range

USD $110,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
