Job Summary
The RN Specialist, Cardiac Cath POD (Procedural Outpatient Department) is responsible for providing and/or assisting with the care of patients receiving cardiac catheter procedures to include admitting patients and providing pre- and post-procedure care to patients admitted to POD for various Heart and Vascular, and related procedures.            Â
Job Details
- Coordinates patient transfers within facility and outlying facilities.
- Provides patient care during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures, such as left and right heart caths, temporary pacemakers, angioplasties/stent, IABP etc.
- Takes precautions to ensure patient and employee safety.
- Admits, assesses, and provides pre- and post- procedure care to patients admitted to POD for various H&V procedures, including patients from Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Function, EP lab etc.
- In the Cardiac Cath Lab: records and monitors arterial pressures, EKG and other vital signs during procedures; assesses patients and gives medications as ordered by physician; circulates during procedures, scrubs in during procedures, and prepares room and equipment for procedure to be performed.
- Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
- Follows hospital/system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
- Remains flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.
- Supports and participates in community wellness programs.
- Serves as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Certifications:
- Registered Nurse with a license to practice in Ohio.
- Current Basic Life Support and ACLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or ALS through American Red Cross.
Complexity of Work:
- Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to coordinate activities between diverse groups. Able to take call: must be able to safely make it to the hospital within 30 minutes once a STEMI has been called.
Work Experience:
- Critical care nursing experience preferred . Able to interpret cardiac arrhythmias.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Â
