We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Bag House Operator to join our production team. Position Summary
The Bag House Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of bagging equipment used to package finished products for shipment. This position ensures production goals are met while maintaining the highest standards of product quality, equipment reliability, housekeeping, and workplace safety.
Previous experience running a bag line is preferred, but not required. Operators will be trained to learn and operate various pieces of equipment, including the bag line, palletizing robot, film wrapper, and forklift. This position also involves hands-on manual labor and assisting with facility cleaning and maintenance tasks.
The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys variety and staying busy. This is not a position for someone who wants to perform the exact same task all day, every day. Operators will be expected to learn different responsibilities, assist teammates, and contribute wherever needed to keep production running efficiently.
This is a Safety-Sensitive Position requiring attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to following safety procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and adjust bagging and palletizing equipment to ensure efficient production.
- Learn and operate the bag line and palletizing robot.
- Set up bagging and palletizing machines for various production runs and product specifications.
- Monitor product flow and equipment performance throughout production.
- Inspect finished bags for proper weight, seal integrity, labeling accuracy, and overall product quality.
- Operate film wrapping equipment to wrap pallets of stacked bags.
- Operate a forklift to move materials and finished products as needed.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues and report major repairs to maintenance personnel.
- Record production data, equipment downtime, material usage, and quality information accurately.
- Load packaging materials into equipment as needed.
- Stack, palletize, wrap, and prepare finished products for storage or shipment.
- Place pallets onto conveyors and assist with movement of materials throughout the production area.
- Place plastic hoods over pallets of finished material.
- Stack heavy bags of mulch, soil, and other finished products as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas following housekeeping standards.
- Clean the facility and assist with general maintenance tasks as needed.
- Follow all company safety, environmental, quality, and operational procedures.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Communicate production issues, equipment concerns, and operational updates with supervisors and team members.
- Work cooperatively with other team members and assist where needed to keep production running efficiently.
- Assist with other production and maintenance duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, production, warehouse, or equipment operating experience preferred.
- Previous bag line experience preferred, but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- Ability to learn and safely operate multiple types of industrial equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Basic math and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to perform both equipment operation and manual labor.
- Ability to adapt to changing job duties and production needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating automated bagging or packaging equipment.
- Manufacturing or industrial production experience.
- Forklift certification or experience (preferred but not required).
- Experience operating palletizing equipment or robotic systems.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures.
- Experience using production reporting systems.
- Experience with general facility maintenance or industrial equipment.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Stack and handle heavy bags of mulch, soil, and other materials.
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and reach.
- Climb stairs and access elevated platforms as needed.
- Work in manufacturing environments with exposure to dust, loud equipment, and moving machinery.
- Work safely in varying temperatures depending on production conditions.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe footwear, and respiratory protection when required.
- Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
- Safely perform manual labor and material-handling tasks throughout the workday.

- Manufacturing and production environment.
- The bag house is loud and very dusty.
- Exposure to industrial machinery, dust, vibration, and noise.
- Indoor facility with varying temperatures depending on the season and production area.
- Required use of PPE in designated work areas.
- Fast-paced production environment with daily production goals.
- Work duties and responsibilities may vary depending on production needs and seasonality.
- Seasonal schedule changes and increased hours are required during the busy season.
Schedule & Seasonal Hours
Hours vary based on seasonality.
Slow Season Schedule:
- Monday–Thursday
- 7:00 AM–6:00 PM
- 1-hour unpaid lunch
- Normal schedule is 4 days / 10-hour shifts (4-10s)
Busy Season Schedule:
- Beginning in the fall, the schedule will transition to Monday–Friday.
- Employees may be required to work up to 55 hours per week.
- The busy season typically continues through the spring and runs approximately until mid-June.
- Employees must be flexible and willing to work additional hours based on production demands.
